What did you do this past week?

This past week my partner and I spent time working on the Life project. We started pretty early last weekend, so we were able to finish without any issues.

What’s in your way?

There isn’t much in my way. Since I’m done with the project, I’m not too worried about assignments for this class until after Thanksgiving break.

What will you do next week?

I have a decent amount of work due on Monday for my other classes, so I’ll spend tomorrow working on that. As for the rest of the week, I’ll probably try relaxing over the break and spend time with my family.

If you read it, what did you think of What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

I’m glad Professor Downing had us read this blog. This is definitely an issue within UTCS and the CS industry as a whole. I hope that those who are more unaware of the bias and microaggressions women and URM face took something away from the readying as well. It’s important to address biases early on.

What was your experience of inheritance?

I thought it made sense. Applying inheritance concepts on the project helped as well. My partner and I were kind of confused about the keyword “virtual” stuff, so working on the project definitely helped clear some things up.

What made you happy this week?

I think I’ve finally decided where I’ll intern next summer, so that’s nice. I like to plan ahead so not knowing for sure where I’ll be definitely made me feel a bit anxious.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My pick-of-the-week would probably be the new M1 chip for MacOS that was released. My XPS is pretty old now, so I’m looking into switching to Mac. I’m kind of concerned about compatibility issues (apparently VSCode and Docker are kind of buggy), but the battery and performance benefits are exciting.
