CS373 Spring 2021: Sahithi Golkonda
Where did you grow up?
I’m from Allen, TX, which is a suburb of Dallas, and I’ve lived in the area my whole life.
What high school did you attend?
I attended Allen High School, where I had a graduating class of 1600 seniors. We’re mostly known for football; we have a $60M high school football stadium!
Why did you come to UT?
I’m from Texas and I didn’t want to go to A&M. Also, everyone I knew spoke very highly of UTCS.
Why are you majoring in CS?
I really like logical problem solving. I also enjoy this aspect of math, so I’ve chosen to double major.
Why are you in this class?
I’m in this class because I heard from friends that it’s very helpful for internships. The mix of practical knowledge and learning a new programming language were the aspects of this class that stood out to me. Additionally, I really enjoyed taking OOP with Professor Downing last semester!
How much Javascript/Python/SQL/Web programming do you already know?
I don’t have any prior experience in Javascript, Python, and Web programming, but I have some exposure to SQL from an internship. I’m excited to learning Python especially, since it would make me a stronger candidate in the CS field.
How did you feel about the cold calling?
I took OOP last semester, so I know the cold calling isn’t anything to stress about. Professor Downing is pretty understanding when someone doesn’t know the answer, and it seems like a good way to foster class participation in a way that’s arguably more engaging than a clicker or Instapoll question.
What made you happy this week?
I’m a TA for OS, and I enjoyed meeting some of the students taking the class this semester.
